Assistant Director

Lindsey Torgerson was born and raised in Rapid City, SD. She has always had a passion for music and has been singing and playing the piano from a young age. This is her first year serving the Dakota Choral Union as the Assistant Conductor.

Lindsey teaches choral music at Central High School in Rapid City, SD. Outside of the school day, Lindsey is a program director for the South Dakota Junior Honor Choir. She is an active member of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME), the South Dakota Music Educators Association (SDMEA), and the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA).

Lindsey grew up loving music and blossomed her love for singing as a member of the Rapid City Children’s Chorus from 2007-2013. As a student at Stevens High School, Lindsey sang in multiple ensembles and select groups and played the role of the narrator in Tim Rice and Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. She also sang in the South Dakota Junior Honor Choir, the South Dakota All-State Choir, and toured 7 countries in Europe with the Midwest Ambassadors of Music. During her studies at Augustana University, Lindsey sang in the University Chorale, the Augustana Choir, and the Chamber Choir. To complete her degree in Music Education, she performed two recitals, one being the university’s first-ever lecture recital that included 13 pieces performed in German. She also received first place at the SDMTA music competition in the fall of 2017 and was a finalist for the Concerto Aria competition in the spring of 2018.

Lindsey sang in DCU for the 2021-2022 season as an alto and soloist. She is very excited to continue her journey with DCU in a different role as the Assistant Conductor on the other side of the podium.
